Welcome Mountain Vista Elementary School

On August 5, Copperleaf’s newest Elementary School,  Mountain Vista Elementary, celebrated it’s grand opening in style. With a ribbon cutting, marching bands, a community BBQ and more, Mountain Vista became part of the Copperleaf Community.   Students, teachers and community members enjoyed and afternoon of festivities to acknowledge the opening of MVE, another school the the top-notch Cherry Creek School District. Mountain Vista opens in August 2014 and will welcome 300 students and begin to fulfill it’s mission:  Dream, Believe, Acheive.  Here is what Cherry Creek School District had to report:

With a snip of a giant pair of scissors, a seven-year dream became reality.  On August 5, 2014Principal Toby Arritola cut the ribbon and officially opened Mountain Vista Elementary, the newest neighborhood school in the Cherry Creek School District.“It’s a school where every student who walks into this building is part of our inclusive excellence,” Arritola said. “We’ll prepare them to go on to Sky Vista Middle School and Cherokee Trail or Eaglecrest high schools.”

Plans for Mountain Vista began in 2007 with a recommendation from the Cherry Creek Schools Long Range Facility Planning Committee.“They had the foresight to recommend construction of this school,” Board of Education President Jim O’Brien said. “Their understanding of economic and population trends ensured that an elementary school would open to coincide with population growth in this area.”  Voters then approved funding for Mountain Vista as part of the 2008 bond issue. Our voters strongly reaffirmed our tradition of continued excellence,” O’Brien added. “For this on-going support, the Board of Education, and all of the employees of the Cherry Creek School District are extremely grateful.

Located in the Copperleaf neighborhood, Mountain Vista is a $17-million facility that features a unique two-story, energy-efficient design and a stunning, panoramic view of the Front Range. But Arritola says the school’s greatest assets are its highly qualified classroom teachers, including kindergarten teacher, Lilly Jamison.   “It’s an honor to be part of opening a new building,” Jamison said. “Mountain Vista has a warm climate that is truly focused on kids. And the community has been wonderful, so welcoming.”  That community spirit was evident during the grand opening celebration, which included performances by the Cherokee Trail and Eaglecrest pep bands and spirit squads, as well as a BBQ provided by Copperleaf and served by the Mountain Vista PTO.

Parent Heather Holman was a little nervous about having her daughter, Kaylee, move to Mountain Vista for fifth grade, but not anymore.  “After I met the staff, no worries!” Holman said. “I’m excited. The school is nice, different, a great change of pace.” Mountain Vista will welcome 300 students on Monday and begin fulfilling its mission: Dream, Believe, Achieve.
