Family Friendly Walks, Fun Runs & 5Ks this Summer in & Around Aurora

An active family is a happy family. Even though the temperatures can reach blistering highs here in Aurora, Colorado, there are plenty of fun ways to enjoy the outdoors during the summer, such as family-friendly 5Ks. Aurora and its surrounding areas offer a selection of walks, runs, and 5Ks to participate in as a family this summer.

Father’s Day 5K/10K – Sunday, June 19, 2016

Hosting a kid’s run along with a variety of family-friendly activities on Father’s Day, this event is a wonderful way to celebrate with the dads in your life. Hosted at Central Park in the Stapleton neighborhood, wake up early on Father’s Day and get active with your family. Both pets and strollers are welcome on the course. Registration for the youth fun run is free of charge. And don’t forget to stick around afterwards for free live entertainment.

 

Run for the Ring 5K & Kids’ Fun Run – Saturday, June 25, 2016

Held at the Anschutz Medical Campus, this event benefits The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. The Kids’ Fun Run portion of the race serves up misters, bounce houses, and inflatable tunnels to ensure your little ones have the time of their lives while getting in some exercise and helping a good cause.

 

So Long to Summer 5K, 5 Mile, 10K, and Family Fun Trek – Saturday, August 13, 2016

As the school year approaches, get the kids out of the house for a fun 1.2 mile walk outside. A post-race pancake breakfast will be served and all participants will receive an event t-shirt. Hosted in Parker’s Salisbury Park, your kids will appreciate spending time outside before the long days in the classroom begin.

Aurora Reservoir – Open All Summer

If you’re looking for a more laid back way to get that walk or run in, check out the 8 mile trail at the Aurora Reservoir. Equipped with parking, restrooms along the trail and great views, you are sure to enjoy the serenity all around you. With mile markers along the way, you can shorten or lengthen your walk/run. And if you’re feeling the summer vibes, bring along a picnic to boost your energy during your adventure.

 

Toll Gate Creek Trail – Open All Summer

Another great trail to check out in Aurora is the Toll Gate Creek Trail. Beginning at the Quincy Reservoir and spanning a little over 6 miles, this trail connects to other great local trails from Horseshoe Park including the Cherry Creek Spillway Trail, the Powerline Trail and the West Toll Gate Creek Trail. Great for runners and walkers of all ages, the trail is paved and full of beauty no matter which direction you end up going.
