7 Family Friendly Things to Do this Summer in Aurora CO

Cherry Creek School District students are finally free to enjoy the long summer days! But for parents, this means it’s time to find family friendly activities to keep kids safely occupied. While summer camps are a great way for busy parents to fill up their kids’ schedule, it doesn’t allow for much family bonding time. Luckily, Aurora offers a variety of fun options for families to make the most out of the summer.

Pool Time

Get your sunscreen and towels ready! Copperleaf residents can take advantage of our community pool, open for the season on Saturday, May 28! The Copperleaf Community pool is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. every day through Sunday, August 14. Children up to the age of 13 must be accompanied while at the pool by a homeowner adult or caregiver who has been designated in writing. Guests are also welcome but are limited to four per household per day. The pool and Arboretum are perfect spots to host a summer party, so make sure to reserve your spot soon!

Annual Garage Sale

Clear out the clutter in your home and spend a day with the Copperleaf Community on Saturday, June 4 during our annual garage sale. The HOA will publicize the event, so all you have to worry about is cleaning out the unused items from your house and emailing Dale Carroll (dale.carroll@coloradohomes.com) or calling him (303.409.6092) to let him know your family is participating so signage can be provided.

Summer Reading

Beginning Saturday, June 4, head to the Mission Viejo branch of the Aurora Public Library (or any other convenient APL location) and sign your kids up for the Summer Learning Fun program. The Summer Learning Program is a chance for children to continue reading over summer, meet new friends, and earn prizes! This program is an inspiring method to pull kids away from their screens (TVs, computers, cell phones, tablets) and get them to engage with stories “the old fashioned way.”

The Great Outdoors

One of the many amazing things about Aurora is how urban conveniences are intertwined with the beauty of nature. You can easily commute to downtown Denver from nearby Light Rail stations but also spend a day as a family at Cherry Creek State ParkQuincy Reservoir, or the Aurora Reservoir. These public areas have a variety of amenities to offer including off-leash dog parks, swimming, boat rentals, picnic areas, hiking and biking paths, fishing, and much more!

Aurora’s Summer Concerts

Hosted by the city of Aurora, free evening concerts begin on Thursday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m. Each concert is hosted at a different location and will have a different musical performance and food vendor, so make sure to check the schedule before heading out! Free of charge, this concert series is a fantastic way to get out of the house on those hot summer nights and relax under the stars with your family while enjoying the landscape of Aurora’s many parks.

Fourth of July Spectacular

What would summer be without a festive 4th of July celebration? Another free event hosted by the city of Aurora, take the family out for live entertainment, food and fireworks at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 4 at the Aurora Municipal Center.

Copperleaf Summer Jam

From noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, bring the family out for live music, giveaways, contests, and more at our second annual Copperleaf Summer Jam held at Western Park in the Ponderosa neighborhood.  While we ask that your four-legged family members sit this event out, everyone else is more than welcome to come enjoy performances by The Margarita Brothers and The Long Run. Be sure to arrive early to pick out a choice spot for your picnic blanket.
