The Quincy Avenue Expansion Project Enhances Copperleaf Community

It’s no secret that the Metro Denver region is a desirable place to live, start a family and become part of a growing community. The influx of new residents in the last several years is proof of that. Our very own Copperleaf Community has gone a long way in welcoming residents to this burgeoning area, especially those interested in sending their children to a high quality school district such as the Cherry Creek School District.

While the growth of the community certainly has been positive , one side effect of this increase in residents is an increase in traffic. Congestion throughout the city’s major thoroughfares can be troublesome at times, and our growing community isn’t immune to it. Luckily, things are about to change with the upcoming Quincy Avenue expansion project. This fall, Arapahoe County will expand Quincy Avenue to add three more lanes on the south side of the street between Copperleaf Boulevard and the western entrance to E-470.

What does this mean for our community and those interested in living here?

Traffic Flow

Traffic will flow much more smoothly in and around Copperleaf Community, and drivers will experience minimal congestion once the changes are in place.

Community Access

Access to and from Copperleaf Community will be made easier, safer and simpler for residents, surrounding neighbors, and emergency and school vehicles.

Alternative Forms of Transportation

In an effort to encourage more pedestrian traffic and to make foot- and bike-powered transportation safer and viable, the county is also installing a new sidewalk on the south side of Quincy. This wonderful development makes the Copperleaf Community a safer and more walkable place to live, and makes it even easier for families to take a stroll through the numerous parks and trails.

The project is currently in the final design stage, and construction is expected to start this fall. It should take just three to six months to complete, depending on weather conditions. This project is in conjunction with the Quincy/Gun Club Road project, expected to take place in 2017-2018. Arapahoe County and the city of Aurora are funding these projects, and in addition to federal funding, the total cost is expected to be $12.7 million.

Arapahoe County officials said they’re excited about the changes, as it will create better traffic flow and a safer overall experience for all road users. The Copperleaf Community is excited too – changes like these are what are making our community an even better place to live.
