Even during tough times when many builders and developers are contending with slow sales and shrinking budgets, long-time area real estate developer, Richard Frank of Centre Communities is donating dollars to help benefit children in the Cherry Creek School District. The donation was made to the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation to support expansion of “Reading Together,” a proven literacy program.
Cherry Creek Schools are dear to Richard Frank’s heart. Both of his now grown children went to Cherry Creek schools, and he is on the district’s Long-Range Facility Planning Committee. When Gaye Leonard, Executive Director of the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation contacted Frank about supporting the “Reading Together” program, he wanted to help out.
The Cherry Creek School District has a national reputation for educational excellence which is due in large part to the strong support of business leaders and community partners such as Copperleaf,” said Leonard. “They recognize the importance of providing a quality education that helps all children achieve and succeed.”
Many of the communities Frank has developed along with his real estate partners are in the Cherry Creek School District. His most recent community, Copperleaf, located at E-470 and Quincy, is served by Cherry Creek Schools. In fact, two Copperleaf neighborhood elementary schools, Aspen Crossing and Timberline, are participating in the “Reading Together” program.
“Reading Together” is a time-tested literacy program targeting students who score in the partially proficient or unsatisfactory range on CSAP reading tests. It pairs fourth and fifth grade students with second and third grade students. Cherry Creek students who participated in a “Reading Together” pilot program last year showed dramatic gains in reading accuracy and comprehension. "Reading Together" also fosters leadership skills, positive relationships, social development and higher self-esteem.
